Playing

How do I play?
Swipe across the canvas, and a line grows both ways from where you started. If a dot hits the line while it’s still growing, the line breaks and you lose a spare line. Close off a space with no dots in it, and it fills with paint. Paint three quarters of the canvas to finish. You can try the first level here.
When does the new board arrive?
At midnight UTC, the same moment everywhere in the world, so everyone plays the same board on the same day. Boards are numbered: No. 1 was 6 October 2026.
How many tries do I get?
Three a day. A try is used only once your first line starts, so looking at the board costs nothing. The first daily try you ever lose is given back once.
Who am I racing?
The friend whose time is just ahead of your best. If no friends have played today, you race your fastest friend, your own best time, or today’s best time in the world. Their lines appear over yours in pencil after you finish.
Why don’t I see my friend’s time?
You race friends from Game Center, and only once they’ve finished today’s board while connected to the internet. Check that you’re both signed in to Game Center and are friends there.
Which paintings are kept?
One painting for each level you finish, one for each canvas you finish with friends, and one for each daily board: the one from your fastest try.

Playing together

How can I play with friends?
Up to three people can paint one canvas. Pass one phone around, play on your own phones in the same room or on a FaceTime call, or take turns from far away, one line each.
What do we each need?
Passing the phone needs only one iPhone, with no account or internet connection. Every other way needs Composition and Game Center on each person’s phone.
A friend’s turn is taking a while. What happens?
Each turn can take up to three days. You’ll get a notification when it’s yours again.

Your iPhone and your data

Does it work without the internet?
Yes. Today’s board, the levels, passing the phone, your gallery and the widgets all work offline. Racing friends, the leaderboard and playing on separate phones need a connection. Achievements you earn offline are sent later.
Will my paintings move to a new iPhone?
Yes, when you’re signed in to Game Center and iCloud: your progress is saved to your iCloud through Game Center.
Do I need an account?
No. Game Center is the only sign-in, and you need it only for racing friends, playing on separate phones, the leaderboard and achievements.
How do I delete my data?
Email privacy@playcomposition.com with your Game Center name, and we’ll delete your saved runs within 30 days. The privacy policy says what we keep and why.
